Coffee Table
I had this old coffee table with no glass top. Instead of replacing the glass, I decided to make my own top with some wood. I started out cutting it down about 20 inches and piecing the base back together. (It was too long for the room)
I then added plain pine boards to the top of the table and used chains and a hammer to gouge out some of the wood (and create some dents – That is Storm, my old dog in the pic :) )
This is the FUN part! Using a blow torch, I burned the top of the wood to create some distress. I did this outside for safety reasons.
Once I was satisfied with the pattern, I sanded it lightly and added a walnut stain. Just so you know, when you have created rivets and gouges in wood, I brush the entire table with the stain. I then use an old rag and lightly wipe off the wood. The gouges will stay darker because the stain remains…it just adds character. :) (and it takes less time to dry) Do not stain inside! It will be a hard smell to get rid of
