Winter wonderland
This year’s gingerbread house was a challenge…mostly because I did not have the time. I wanted to create some sort of a winter wonderland. So, I designed a log cabin and surrounded it with a hill made of rice crispy squares covered in white fondant and an ice skating rink in the yard. Jelly beans were used to create a path to the front door as well as insinuate the look of stones at the base of the building. I covered the board in white sugar crystals to reflect an light the way the snow would on a crisp, sunny day. Candied snowflakes gave the ‘snow’ a thicker look. The log cabin effect was created by rolling out each piece of gingerbread to look like a piece of log. Glass was made by melting pieces of hard candy in the oven and then placing them on the inside of the frame.
