Insulating around windows and doors
Do you ever find that you are colder standing near a window or door? I sure have a couple spots in my house that could definately use some more insulation. If you haven’t replaced your windows and need a solution until you do, try using spray foam to insulate around the window.
- You’re going to need to take all the mouldings off the window. This is best done by using an exacto knife along the outside and inside edge of the moulding. This will ensure that the paint does not peel when you remove the moulding.
- Once the mouldings are off, spray inside the cracks between the window and the wall. I always use gloves because it tends to stick to your fingers. Also, shake well before use and plan on using the whole can. Once the plastic tip dries, it is tough to use the spray.
- Allow the spray foam to dry and then using an exacto knife, cut off the exess foam (it will billow out) so that it is flush with the wall
- Put your mouldings back on using finishing nails. I then follow up with a quick paint touch-up on the mouldings!
